A non-profit community outreach of Waynesboro FM Church.

We believe:

  • Every mother and baby has inherent worth and value, and are made in the image of God.

  • Vulnerable pregnant mothers should have access to safe, trauma-informed prenatal and postpartum care.

  • Vulnerable pregnant mothers have unique needs and challenges and should be cared for beyond the physical- including mental, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of wellbeing.

  • Entering motherhood is a time of immense change and transformation in which women need support.

  • It takes a village of support for women to thrive into becoming mothers who feel capable and empowered to fulfill their God-given role.

Did you know this about our community?

Pregnant women with an incarcerated partner have a 58-200% increase in having adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Pregnant women with risk factors such as mental health conditions, lack of social support, and substance abuse have a higher chance of pregnancy and birth complications.

Women of color are at higher risk of adverse outcomes, including maternal mortality.

Waynesboro city has double the teen pregnancy rate compared to the state of Virginia.

We primarily serve Waynesboro city, Augusta county, and Rockingham county.

How does midwifery and doula care meet the needs of women with social challenges?

  • Midwifery and doula care are highly individualized, with a focus on building trusting relationships and providing personalized support tailored to the unique needs, preferences, and circumstances of each client. Midwives and doulas take the time to listen to individuals' concerns, answer questions, and provide compassionate, nonjudgmental care throughout the childbirth journey.

  • Continuity and un-rushed 45+ min visits foster a sense of trust and familiarity between the midwife/doula and client, promotes effective communication, and enhances the overall birth experience.

  • Midwives and doulas help women connect with local community resources as they come to understand each client’s unique needs. Our community has so much to offer.

It all starts with respectful, relationship-based care with the same provider every visit.

“If people aren’t feeling respected or safe, they’re less likely to keep coming in for prenatal care.”

Joan Combellick, CNM, Yale Professor

The traditional prenatal and postpartum visit is usually short (5-10 minutes) and aimed to address mostly the physical needs of a mother and her developing baby yet is rarely able to fully address and support the deep needs of vulnerable pregnant mothers who have social challenges that put them at risk for adverse pregnancy and birth outcomes. We are able to provide the time necessary to meet these additional aspects of care while also incorporating spiritual care.
